VINEYARD

OUR VINEYARD

Lucien Arkas Vineyard is the biggest single parcel vineyard in Turkey and is located in 288,62 acres land in İzmir Torbalı.

Experts reviewed the territorial and climatic characteristics of vineyards and as a result of soil and climate analyzes conducted, saplings supplied from Europe were shipped to Lucien Arkas Vineyards by special air-conditioned trucks. Then, we decided to plant high quality wine making grapes such as Tempranillo, Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Marselan, Ugni Blanc (Trebbiano) , Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Bornova Misketi at Lucien Arkas Vineyards. These are the types of grapes which were thought to perfectly match the soil and conditions of Aegean and some of them were never cultivated in Turkey.

At Lucien Arkas Vineyards, vines are wrapped by wire based on a cultivation system called “high trellis' to ensure that they grow upward. This provides plenty of air circulation and sunlight required for healthy growth of grapes. Also, we prune and cut the vines before harvesting and reduce the amount of bunches of grapes per vines based on “low productivity, high quality'' principle. In this way, aromatic character of grapes is strengthened.

ORGANIC VINEYARDS

We started to cultivate the grapevines by using organic cultivation methods for the first time in Turkey in order to protect typical fruity character of grapes.

We cultivate our grapevines without using hormone, synthetic chemical drugs and fertilizers at our Ecocert-registered organic vineyard. In this way, we ensure natural protection of typical fruity flavors of grapes that result from the terroir. We also contribute to the re-organization of deteriorating natural balance thanks to the human and environment-friendly organic cultivation methods.

HARVEST IN THE MOONLIGHT

We harvest the grapes at night chill in order to maintain freshness and sweetness of the grapes that are grown based on organic cultivation methods. In this way, we do not only prevent the undesired fermentation process but also avoid using unnecessary energy to cool the grapes and grape juice and save energy at a high ratio.

MICROVINIFICATION

We are making trial productions with small quantities based on the method called microvinification. In this way, we gain experience about the types of grapes in the region and the wines that could be made from these types, identify criteria such as the region and vineyards to get the highest quality grapes, ideal grape maturity and harvest season and decide on vinification (winemaking) methods to keep the ideal balance in wine.
